Who We Are
The Pre-Medical Honor Society (PMHS) is a student organization in which pre-medical students who have achieved academic excellence can further their understanding of the study and practice of medicine through various opportunities made available to our members. We are the only pre-medical organization directly sponsored by the College of Letters and Science on campus.

Q/A with our member of the week!
Q: What is your major?
A: Microbial Biology
Q: What aspect of medicine are you most interested in?
A: Medical microbiology was what first got me interested in medicine, since my dad is a Medical Technologist and I used to come to the clinic after school to watch him when I was younger. The idea of using a variety of techniques to analyze patient samples in order to identify the issue is fascinating to me, especially since this is an aspect of medicine that people might not consider right away. I am also very interested in rural medicine, as I come from a small, rural community and saw firsthand how a physician shortage can affect how people regard the healthcare system and their willingness to get medical treatment.
Q: Where are you from? What do you miss most about home?
A: I was born in the Philippines, but grew up in Orofino, Idaho. I most miss being with my family and being close to nature, since Berkeley is definitely a more high-paced atmosphere. It's definitely a lot more quiet in my hometown, which is always a welcome break whenever I go back.
Q: What's your favorite college memory?
A: My favorite college memory was during my freshman year, when I went to a Filipino restaurant for the first time with my friends after a particularly difficult midterm. I'd never gotten the chance to really interact with or celebrate my culture when I was growing up, and it meant a lot to me when my friends suggested we do this to cheer me up.
Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: My hobbies include hanging out with friends and family, hiking, playing video games, reading, writing, and golfing.
Q: If you weren't pre-med, what career path would you have chosen?
A: I would definitely have chosen to work for the National Park Service, since I love going to National Parks with my family every vacation and going hiking, swimming, etc.
Q: What is something we shouldn't know about you?
A: I'm not that good at singing, but I still get fairly competitive over karaoke scores...
